The employee had removed the machined part from the fixture and put it on a small gauging table to begin to measure it to make sure it was machined properly.

After the machinist set the part on the small table he removed his gloves so that he could begin to measure it. The part was nearly 20 inches long and the table was only had a diameter of 14 inches. He bumped the part and it fell off the table. He reached and caught it with his bare hand on the freshly machined surface.

Deep Laceration to the right ring finger near the tip resulting in 7 stitches. The ER did not notice that the employee had FOD in the wound when they sewed it up resulting in an infection with-in 2 days. The employee had to see a hand surgeon and required surgery to remove the FOD resulting in a longer recovery period.

Sharp Metal Material he had just machined.
