Walking through Metal Finishing department

At approx [REDACTED] employee was walking toward the QA lab through the metal finishing area where he stepped on a loose piece of steel grating (covering one of the drainage trench areas in the concrete). There happened to be a gap where the grating was situated so the top of the employee 's toe touched the concrete while the back part of the grating flipped up. This caused the employee to lose his balance and twist his ankle since the other half of his foot sank into the trench. He did not fall but was able to catch himself. This flipping up of the grating caused the front part of his foot that was on the concrete to get bent backward toward his shin which in turn caused severe pain in the back and side of his left ankle.
