Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that employees
were exposed to:
(a)
Location:      West side of the roof of the Queen City Racquet Club
building expansion.
Equipment:     Roof insulation 6' wide sections, roof sheeting 36" wide
(2 separate
lengths) and power tools.
Condition:     In that employees were traveling laterally on a roof whose
eave to ground
distance measured 20' and the pitch of the roof was 4" in
12".  The
sheeting they were walking on was slick and oily.  They
were not
adequately protected from falls to the ground level.
Feasible and acceptable methods of abatement are the installation of a
catch platform along the
perimeter of the roof below the work area and/or the installation of
static lifelines and the
wearing of safety belts and lanyards.
