P.L. 91-596 Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of
1970: The employer
did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards
that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that
employees were exposed to the hazard(s) of being struck by falling loads.
a)Workplace - An employee in the yard area, operating two unrated A-frame
underhung
trolley hoists, was mounting wheels to the trailers frames while the load
was suspended, on or
about 04/03/97.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to
correct the hazard
would be to operate, inspect, and maintain hoists in accordance with the
American National
Standard, ANSI B30.11-1973, Chapters 11-1, 11-2 and 11-3.
