Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that employees
were exposed to fall hazards:
a.Thomasville central equipment room:  On or about November 27, 1997, the
Cramer Black Kik Stool used by employees for accessing telephone equipment
had dents and tears on its top surface, and was missing its spring mounted
casters. The bottom of the stool had no bumper like material which would
keep
it from sliding across the floor, exposing employees to fall hazards.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to
correct
this hazard is to ensure that step stools are maintained in good
structural condition
and stools which are damaged are discarded.
