employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which
were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause
death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were
exposed to:
a)  At the Tarentum Bridge employees were exposed to the hazard
of lead poisoning.  The following conditions contributed
to the existence of the hazard:
1.  Employees with lead exposure were permitted to leave
the job site before showering.
2.  Facilities for separate storage of work clothes and
street clothes were not provided.
3.  Smoking was permitted in areas contaminated by lead.
4.  Employees with elevated blood lead results were not
informed of their test results as soon as possible.
A feasible method of abatement would include the following:
1.  Develop and implement a comprehensive program for the
control and elimination of lead exposure hazards.
2.  Require employees to shower before leaving the site;
provide separate storage facilities for work clothes
and street clothes.
3.  Prohibit smoking on the job site.
4.  Provide written copies of blood lead test results as
soon as they are available.

a)  At the Tarentum Bridge employees were exposed to the hazard
of lead poisoning.  The following condition contributed to
this hazard.  An abrasive blaster with a blood lead level
of 153 microgram lead per deci-liter of blood was not
removed from further exposure to lead.
A feasible method of abatement of this hazard would be to remove from
lead exposure any employee with a blood lead level in excess of 50
micrograms of lead per 100 grams of blood.
