Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees and vendors when
entering or exiting the receiving dock area.
Star Market, Brookline - Receiving Dock
Employees and vendors entering or exiting through the receiving dock doors
are exposed to back
and leg injuries while climbing onto or jumping off the receiving dock.
Also employees are
exposed to crushing injuries by the constant truck traffic backing into
and departing the dock
area.
One method, among other methods, to correct the hazard is to modify the
west emergency exit
door, immediately adjacent to the receiving area, and make it an entrance
to the receiving area
for Star Market truck drivers and outside vendors making deliveries.  Also
the company shall
prohibit access and egress to the receiving area through the dock bay
doors.h
