Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to crushing and amputation from unintended activation: (a) Department 50 The foot pedal on the double lever pneumatic press was not guarded. (b) Department 40 The foot pedal on the Peck, Stowe, and Wilcox pneumatic shear was not guarded. (c) Welding Department The foot pedal on the Pneuco pneumatic press brake was not guarded. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method of abatement to correct this hazard is to guard the foot pedal.
