at sharp edges or where the slings make 90 degree turns which create point
loading:
On or About November 26, 2002, two 4 inch wide X 16 foot long nylon slings
used to hoist two
over-the-road trailers weighing a combined weight of 12,450 pounds
attached to a four legged
wire rope bridle sling connected to the main hook of a Deutsche Grove
5100, 100 ton rough
terrain crane were not provided with wear pads or protection at the sharp
90 degree turns at the
outside rails of the trailers.
Among other methods, feasible and acceptable abatement methods to correct
this hazard would
be to install wear pads or protection on the slings at the 90 degree sharp
edges of the metal
trailers while hoisting the trailers with nylon slings.
