Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: (a) Employees were exposed to a potential fall hazard while operating the manlift in the feed mill and in the main elevator due to the lack of a complete car enclosure on each manlift. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard would be to install a complete car enclosure on each manlift. (b) Employees were exposed to a crushing hazard while working around the manlift in the main elevator due to lack of a guardrail with a gate around the base of the manlift. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard would be to install a guardrail system around the manlift.
