Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that employees
were exposed to the condition(s) listed below:
Automotive Repair Shop, Performance Autoplex, Ltd., Midland, TX:  On or
about April 24,
1998, employees engaged in repairing autos, elevated upon lifts were
exposed to being crushed
or struck by the auto in the event of a failure of the lift.  Three of the
lifts in the shop were
missing the mechanical safety device which kept the lift from coming down
suddenly.  One
feasible method of abatement would be to install the missing safety
devices on the lifts and to
develope a preventive maintance program to ensure the lifts work properly.
