Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to hazards associated with moving parts: a) Ambeg #2 Glass Vile Machine - This machine was not provided with an emergency stopping device adjacent to the bottom chuck area where an operator reaches in to remove any glass which becomes caught. On or about 5/7/98. One feasible and acceptable abatement method for correcting this hazard is: Replace the emergency stopping device. This device should operate (as it has previously on this machine) in the same way it operates on the other Ambeg glass vile machines. ABATEMENT NOTE: In accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19, Abatement Verification, the employer will provide abatement certification to the Area Director within 13 calendar days of the final abatement date of the violation. Please send a photograph showing the emergency stopping device in place, and a written statement claiming that this device is operational.n
