Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employmnent and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees: In accordance with ANSI/NFPA 79-1997 Electrical Standard for Industrial Machinery and NFPA 79 - 13-2 Emergency Stop Devices the employee(s) working with the Meuser Lathe were not provided an emergency stop device in the event of an emergency. One feasible and acceptable method of compliance would be to install an emergency stop device next to the control area of the operator and insure the device meets the requirements identified above. Additional abatement information is required for this item.
