SCRR 71-112A: Failed to furnish a place of employment which is free of
recognized hazards
which may cause death or serious physical harm to his employees and comply
with this
regulation and other occupational safety and health rules and regulations
promulgated under
Chapter 15 of Title 41, Code of Laws, State of South Carolina, 1976, as
amended, as
follows:
A. Employer knew or should have known that employees erecting 57 metal
plate connected
wooden trusses at Zion Pilgrim Church in excess of 10 feet were exposed to
the
hazard of
being struck by trusses toppling and falling to the floor below due to top
cord lateral braces
only, using 25 1/2" space blocks (purling) being used as temporary
bracing.  A feasible and
useful method to correct this hazard, among other methods, is to follow
the manufacturers
instruction and recommendations in the HIB-91 Summary Sheet-Commentary and
Recommendations for handling, installing and bracing metal plate connected
wood trusses or
equivalent, and use bracing such as but not limited to top cord lateral
braces, lateral bracing,
bottom cord diagonal bracing, top cord diagonal bracing, and proper
building interior and
exterior ground bracing.
