Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees: in that employees
were exposed to possible serious injury from a collapse of the tower
climbing work platforms
from overload or improper operation, while the employees were working on
the platforms,
where there was no indication of the capacity, working load, operating
instructions, and other
hazard warnings.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to
correct this hazard is
to comply with American National Standards Institute, ANSI A92.9-1993,
which states that there
shall be information displayed on all mast climbing work platforms, in a
clearly visible
accessible area, in a durable manner. The information which shall be
displayed will be,hazard
warnings, capacities, cautions, model and serial number, and instructions
for
the safe operation
of the platform.
Jobsite: 130 Canal Street, Fall River, MA
On or about September 3, 1998, Employees were exposed to possible serious
injury
while riding on/or working on Access Satellite Mast Climbing Work
Platforms where
warnings, capacities, and other similar placards were not installed on the
following
machines to inform the operators and workers, on the platforms, of this
information:
