Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm in that
employees were exposed
to the hazard of:
Being struck by a moving automobile.  A garbage collector working behind a
Mack truck
with a McNeilus hopper and compactor on the north side of 5265 County Line
Road,
Spring Hill , Fl., was in the vicinity of other moving vehicles in
pre-dawn darkness, on
or about Sept. 16, 1999. One method of abatement, among other feasible
methods, is to
require employees working in such conditions to wear high visibility
reflective clothing
and to establish a frequent and regular worksite inspection program to
ensure employees
comply with this rule.
