Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that employees
were exposed to the hazard of being crushed by a falling automotive:
a)Workplace, Mechanic's Garage: An employee was working under the
automotive
lift, not provided with pads, when the vehicle slipped off the swing-arms
of the
lift and fell on the employee. On or about 05/30/01.
Feasible and acceptable methods for correcting this hazard are:
1)Daily operator inspections as per ANSI/ALI ALOIM-2000, Section 4.4.4.
2)Annual inspections of the lift by a Qualified Inspector as per ANSI/ALI
ALIOM-
2000, Section 5.5.
3)Establish a periodic preventive maintenance procedure as per ANSI/ALI
ALOIM-
2000, Section 6.1.1.
