Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety & Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not furnish
employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized
hazards that were
causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees, in
that, employees were
exposed to crushing injuries from a collapsing roof truss system where the
temporary bracing
was not adequate:
Job Site: Inside structure.
On March 23, 2001, employees were exposed to serious injury while
constructing a pole
barn and approximately twenty-two premanufactured trusses collapsed where
the span
was eighty feet.
One method of abatement, among others, is to consult a registered
professional engineer
for a bracing schedule when the truss spans are over sixty feet.
