General-duty citation text
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety & Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being struck and/or crushed while servicing automobiles.: Employees were exposed to being struck and/or crushed from electrical hydraulic lifts used for raising vehicles on a daily basis due to excessive were of the ift structure components, such as but not limited to, defective locking devices, leaking hydraulic fluid, etc. Service Department: a) Lift #1, No manufacturers name or I.D. used only for changing oil in vehicles. A steel bar with a rope was used in lieu of a safety latch. Lift when raised shifts from side to side. b) Benwil Lift, Grand TP-9, Serial #800507, 9000000 lb capacity was leaking hydraulic fluid. c)Benwil Lift, CP-7, no Serial #, 7000 lb capacity, was not provided with rubber pads to secure vehicle from slipping when being raised on the lift. d) Lift #2, Mohawk, no serial #, 9000 lb capacity, broken safety latch and leaking hydraulic fluid causing lif to lower itsel down. Violation observed on or about 6/12/01 THE MCQUIRE PONTIAC BUICK GMC WAS PREVIOUSLY CITED FOR A VIOLATION OF THIS OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH STANDARD OR ITS EQUIVALENT STANDARD 5(A)(1) WHICH WAS CONTAINED IN OSHA INSPECTION NUMBER 302135801, CITATION NUMBER 1, ITEM NUMBER 1,ISSUED ON 12/23/99, WITH RESPECT TO A WORKPLACE AT 7027 KENNEDY BLVD., NORTH BERGEN, NJ 07047.
