Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employmnent and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to sharpnel from the PVC pipe used to transport compressed air. Spray Paint Enclosure: September 04, 2002, PVC piping used in the spray booth area was not suitable for the transport of compressed air. Employees were exposed to flying sharpnel if the PVC shatters. "Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to:" 1. Only use material with shatter resistance properties. (Reference Plastic Pipe Institute document). 2. Follow manufacturer recommendation on application.
