Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not furnish employment
and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause
death or serious physical harm to employees in that crushing and striking
hazards in collapsing townhouse :
a) Sadsbury Village, Bldg. #141, Unit E - Three workers were injured while
installing steel studs
when a strong gust of wind caused the exterior walls to fail causing a
building collapse. The walls
were not properly braced in that there was one brace placed in the middle
of both exterior walls.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to
correct this hazard is to install
bracing as required in Ryan Homes Drawing SP-1 Safety Procedures.
