Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards
that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that
employees were exposed to the hazards of being caught-by, struck-by,
and/or falls due to an
unplanned collapse of wooden trusses:
a)  At the jobsite located at 864 Homefield, O'Fallon, MO 63366, on or
about 01-09-
03, employees were exposed to the hazards of an unplanned collapse due to
the
inadequate methods used to temporarily brace 35 wooden trusses.  These
trusses did
collapse injuring one employee.
One method of abatement to correct this apparent hazard is to instruct
each employee in the
proper methods used to temporarily brace wooden trusses as required by
HIB-91 Summary
Sheet, Commentary and Recommendations for Handling, Installing, and
Bracing
Metal Plate
Connected Wood Trusses.
