Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:
The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which
were free from
recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious
physical harm to
employees in that they were exposed to striking/amputation injuries:
a) On site - Inoperable "deadman" switch under the operator's seat on the
Lesco Turf
mowers, on or about 7/16/02.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this
hazard is to
follow the requirements in the operating manual of the manufacturer and
those required
by the American National Standards Institute B-71.4 -1984 for operational
electrical
interlocks.
