Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish to each of his employees a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being crushed by a dropped/uncontrolled load related to mechanical malfunctions due to the lack of frequent and periodic inspections of the two Kone Cranes (one 10 and one 25 ton) located in the main part of the shop and the two 40 ton Northern Cranes located in the new shop. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to ensure that the cranes are inspected on a frequent schedule in accordance with Section 11-2.1.2, on a periodic schedule in accordance with Section 11-2.1.3 and that the wire ropes are inspected as required by Section 11-2.4 of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) B30.11-1998, Monorails and Underhung Cranes. Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish to each of his employees a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of: Loss of control and/or inappropriate controls being utilized due to lack of labeling of the controls of the two (one 10 and one 25 ton) Kone Cranes located in the main part of the shop. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to ensure that the controls pendants are "constructed to prevent electrical shock" and that the controls are "marked for identification of functions" in accordance with section 11-1.9.1(e) of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) B30.11-1998, Monorails and Underhung Cranes.
