Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to THE HAZARD OF BEING CAUGHT UNDER A FALLING AUTOMOTIVE LIFT: a)Upper Service Bay, on or about 04/17/2003: A Rotary double pneumatic actuated hydraulic cylinder automotive lift had not been inspected, no preventative maintenance performed and two safety levers were missing: Among other methods, several feasible and acceptable abatement methods to correct this hazard are to: 1.Repair or replace the broken/missing safety levers. 2.Conduct frequent and periodic inspections of the lifts in accordance with ANSI/ALI ALOIM 2000, Section 5, Standard for Automotive Lifts: Safety Requirements for Operation, Inspection and Maintenance. 3.Schedule preventative maintenance on all automotive lifts and maintain documentation of all servicing and repairs. ANSI/ALI ALOIM 2000, Section 6, Standard for Automotive Lifts: Safety Requirements for operation, Inspection and Maintenance. b)Upper Service Bay, on or about 04/17/2003: A Rotary single pneumatic actuated hydraulic cylinder automotive lift, Number 1, had not been inspected, no preventative maintenance performed and the safety levers were inoperable due to corrosion. c)Upper Service Bay, on or about 04/17/2003: A Rotary single pneumatic actuated hydraulic cylinder automotive lift, Number 2, had not been inspected, no preventative maintenance performed and the safety levers were inoperable due to corrosion. Among other methods, several feasible and acceptable abatement methods to correct this hazard are to: 1.Repair or replace the corroded safety levers. 2.Conduct frequent and periodic inspections of the lifts in accordance with ANSI/ALI ALOIM 2000, Section 5, Standard for Automotive Lifts: Safety Requirements for operation, Inspection and Maintenance. 3.Schedule preventative maintenance on all automotive lifts and maintain documentation of all servicing and repairs. ANSI/ALI ALOIM 2000, Section 6, Standard for Automotive Lifts: Safety Requirements for Operation, Inspection and Maintenance. Abatement certification must be submitted for these items.
