Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of explosion from unapproved rubber hose being used as a natural gas supply line: a) Plant: Employees were exposed to the hazards of natural gas leaking and igniting due to the use of unnaproved hoses laying on the shop floor to feed the salamanders used to heat wire coils prior to the wire being formed. Violation observed on 1/8/04 & 1/23/04 Abatement Note: "Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method is to install rigid metallic piping in accordance with The National Fuel Gas Code, ANSI Z223.1- 1992/NFPA 54-1992, Section 5.5, Equipment Connections to Building Piping."
