Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that employees
were exposed to a crushing hazard created by the sudden and unpredictable
descent of a vehicle
elevated by an automotive lift:
a)In the shop, on or about February 8th, 2005:  A Globe, two post
automotive
lift, serial number W70352, had a pair of Vise-Grip pliers which were used
to provide tension to the lock release cables.
b)Records of periodic lift inspections as well as subsequent repairs or
replacement were not prepared and maintained.
Among other methods several feasible and acceptable abatement methods to
correct
these hazards are to:
1.Have defective lift components, specifically lock release cables,
repaired and/or replaced and ensure all lift components are
operational.
2.Establish a periodic inspection program as recommended by the
manufacturer.
Abatement certification must be submitted for these items.
