Labor and Employment Article, Section 5-104(a):  The employer did not
furnish employment and a place of
employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or
likely to cause death or serious
physical harm to employees:
(a)Date of Violation:06/18/04
Condition:Employees performed a test erection of a locally designed,
locally fabricated miniature
tower crane without a comprehensive erection plan, and were exposed to
falling from
and being struck by the "crane" components being assembled.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to
correct this hazard is to have the
plans for the miniature tower crane approved by a registered professional
engineer and develop and utilize a
comprehensive erection plan to ensure the structure and components do not
fall during the erection process.
Abatement documentation (photographs, receipts, copies of programs,
training certification, etc.)
is required for this item.
