At the basement of Pediatric Hospital, the employee were performing works
such as:
evaluating patients, dental procedures, giving therapy to children, other
works related to
medicine, and the machine maintenance. A mercury spill was found in the
garbage
container at the exterior of building due to a vapor meter instrument
broken.
The
employer did not verify the hospital adjacent areas to container until
four days after the
spill if the instrument was broken at the moment of remove it from the
room machine,
leaking mercury at this and the aisles, exposure to employees by four days
to mercury
vapor.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to
correct this
hazard is employees evacuation and verify all the areas.

En el sotano del Hospital Pediatrico, los empleados estaban realizando
trabajos tales
como: evaluando pacientes, procedimiento dentales, dando terapias a ninos,
otros trabajos
relacionados a la medicina, y el mantenimiento de maquinas. Un derrame de
mercurio
fue encontrado en el contenedor de basura en el exterior del edificio
debido a un
instrumento de medir vapor roto. El patrono no verifico areas adyacentes
del hospital
hasta cuatro dias despues del derrame si el instrumento estaba roto al
momento de
removerlo del cuarto de maquinas, derramando mercurio en este y los
pasillos,
exponiendo a los empleados al vapor de mercurio.
Entre otros metodos, un metodo de correcion factible y aceptable para
corregir el riesgo
es desalojar los empleados y verificar todas las areas.
