site in Boca Raton, Florida, an employee was exposed to a drowning hazard
while working in
a storm drain system structure space containing water.
Among other methods of abatement, a feasible and acceptable method to
correct this hazard
would be:
To follow the American National Standard Institute (ANSI) Z117.1-1995,
Safety Requirements
for Confined Spaces which requires identification and evaluation of the
hazard within a confined
space under Section 3, isolation methods under Section 8, appropriate PPE
under Section 11,
retrieval equipment under Section 12, emergency rescue provisions under
Section 14; and
personnel training under Section 15.
