Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not furnish employment
and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause
death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed
to falling loads and/or lift parts:
(a)Service Department - Employees were using single post and double post,
frame contact semi
hydraulic in-ground lifts to elevate trucks and automobiles for repair
purposes.  A mechanical
device was not provided to hold the lift in the fully extended position at
the rated load
capacity, exposing employees to injury from being struck by falling loads
and/or lift parts, on
or about June 22, 2005.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to
correct this hazard is to provide an
automatic  mechanical device to hold the lift in the fully extended
position at rated load capacity.
