Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational safety and Health Act of 1970:  the
employer did not furnish
employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized
hazards
that were
causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm in that
employees were exposed to
falling out of moving vehicles:
On or about May 31, 2006, employees rode in the back of a 20 foot box
truck used to transport
furniture and other materials. One employee riding in the back of the
truck fell out of an open
side door while the vehicle was in motion, resulting in serious injury.
Among other methods,
one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to ensure
persons are not transported
in the cargo area of a vehicle as is explained in the 1997 Ford Cargo
Owner Guide.
