General-duty citation text

Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that employees
were exposed to being struck by falling objects from overhead hoists:
(a) Cleaning Area:  On or about June 14, 2005, the company had three
overhead hoists which
had the following deficiencies:
*  The directions for the control ropes were not marked/labeled
*  Frequent and Periodic inspections with written record were not conducted
*  There was no preventative maintenance program in accordance with the
manufacturer's
recommendations for the hoists
Among other methods one feasible and acceptable means to correct the
hazards is to properly
identify the directional control ropes, conduct frequent and periodic
inspections
(with written
records), and to develop and implement a preventive maintenance program
based on the
manufacturer's recommendations and ANSI/ASME B30.17.ME
