Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards
that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that
employees were exposed to collapsing wooden trusses:
a)Construction Site, P.J.s Auto Sound Bldg., 5244 Peach Street, Erie,
PA - Employees of the company were working inside wooden trusses
that were erected on an existing flat roof. The temporary bracing for
the trusses was inadequate in that only a single lateral brace was in
place on the North side of the trusses.
AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE METHOD OF
ABATEMENT WOULD BE TO FOLLOW THE MANUFACTURERS
RECOMMENDATIONS ON ROOF TRUSS ERECTION OR THE BCSI 1-03,  GUIDE TO
GOOD PRACTICE FOR HANDLING, INSTALLING & BRACING OF METAL PLATE
CONNECTED WOOD TRUSSES, FROM THE WOOD TRUSS COUNCIL OF
AMERICA AND THE TRUSS PLACE INSTITUTE, OCTOBER 1, 2003.
