General-duty citation text
Labor and Employment Article, Section 5-104(a): The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees: (a)Date of Violation:08/30/06 Location:Cleaning Area Condition:The eyewash unit failed to provide water flow to meet at a central point for simultaneous flushing of the eyes where employees prepared and applied highly corrosive caustic soda to parts for cleaning. Abatement documentation (photographs, receipts, copies of programs, training certification, etc.) is required for this item. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to adjust the water pressure to the eyewash station to allow sufficient flow to flush both eyes simultaneously. Test the eyewash regularly to ensure the proper flow rate is maintained.
