Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not furnish employment
and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause
death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed
to:
a.At the workplace, the employer did not perform daily or periodic
inspections nor perform preventative
maintenance on the Challenger Automotive Lift, model 65000, thus exposing
employees to a struck-by
hazard.
Among other methods, feasible and acceptable abatement methods to correct
this include, but are not
limited to the following:
1.Develop and implement standard operating procedures for hydraulic lifts
which include daily
and periodic inspections and a preventative maintenance program in
accordance with
manufacturers specifications as outlined in the ANSI/ALI ALOIM - 2000,
Safety
Requirements
for Installation and Service Standard.
2.Instruct all employees on the safe operating procedures of all hydraulic
lifts, including but not
limited to the operation, maintenance, daily and periodic inspections.
