used a wood and brush chipping machine and placed their hand(s) on the
feed table when the
chipping machine while the chipper was in operation or the rotor was
turning:
a) At Worksites such as, but not limited to, 296 New Road, Parsippany, NJ
Employees use a diesel powered wood and brush chipper, the Woodsman 18X/
R504850
Chipper, as part of their duties to chip firewood on site and chip brush
and waste tree trimming
material when servicing clients.  An employee placed his hands onto the
feed table while feeding
fire wood into chipper.
Violation occurred on 3-8-07
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to
correct this hazard is
to train employees in the safe operation of the Woodsman wood and brush
chipper, including
specific instruction to never place hands, arms, feet, legs or any other
body parts on the feed
table, in accordance with the Operating Manual of the Woodsman Brush
Chipper, and in
accordance with Section 3.1.3. and 8.6.4 of the ANSI Z133.1-1972.
