Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to point loading sling hooks: a)1 Broad Street, Clifton, NJ: An employee was moving a steel plate with an overhead crane and a sling by point loading the eye hooks of the sling, on or about 08/11/2008. ABATEMENT NOTE: Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to utilize a sling with sorting hooks designed for point loading as described in ASME B30.9-2006 (Slings) Section 9-1.10.4 (Rigging Practices).
