Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that employees
were exposed to being struck by falling loads in that the two automotive
lifts did not have a
preventive maintenance program:
(a) Facility:  On or about September 3, 2008, the employer did not have a
preventive
maintenance program for the VBM Corporation automotive lift and the Dover
Corporation rotary
automotive lift.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable means to abate this
condition is to develop
a preventive maintenance program in accordance with the manufacturer's
recommendations and
the ANSI/ALI AIOIM, "American National Standard for Automotive Lifts,
Safety
Requirements
for Operation, Inspection and Maintenance", Section 6.1.1.
