Section 6(a) of the Puerto Rico Occupational Safety and Health Act:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or physical harm to employees in
that employees were
exposed to:
Seccion 6(a) de la Ley de Seguridad y Salud en el Trabajo de Puerto Rico:
El patrono no
proveyo empleo y un sitio de empleo libre de riesgos reconocidos que esten
causando o que
puedan causar muerte o dano fisico a los empleados, por cuanto empleados
estaban expuestos
a:
a)At the "Departamento de la Familia - Oficina Local de Aguada", the
employees
were performing office work duties (technicians, secretaries, and other
office
personnel). The following ergonomics hazard were observed:
1.The height of the computer workstation was 32 inches. According to the
International Standard (ISO 9241, 1992), the maximum recommended
height of Video Display Terminal (VDT) workstation is 29 inches.
2.The VDT workstation was not equipped with a document (copy) holder
to help improve the posture of the employees as well as their comfort and
work efficiency.
3.A wrist rest for typing, that would help reduce exposure of the
hands/wrists to contact stress, was not available at the VDT workstation.
Hazard: employees exposed to ergonomic risk factors such as awkward and/or
sustained body postures frequently adopted and maintained during long
periods
of time, and repetitive body movements. Cumulative exposure to these risk
factors and particularly their combination, cause or contribute to
increase risk of
musculoskeletal disorders.
Among others methods, some feasible and acceptable methods for the
correction
of these hazards are the following:
1.Consider exploring opportunities for adjusting the height of the VDT
workstation according to parameters recommended by relevant ergonomics
standards. Maximum workstation height should not exceed 29.0 inches
(ISO 9241, 1992). The proposed strategy may help improve overall
posture of the employees when performing the job-specific VDT tasks and
other work-related activities at the workstation.
2.Consider providing a document (copy) holder that may help address
awkward postures frequently experienced by the employees at their VDT
workstation, including repetitive bending and/or twisting of the neck/head
when performing the job-specific tasks, such as manual handling of
documents along with simultaneous use of the computer (data and
information entry or retrieval).
3.Consider providing a wrist rest for typing tasks. The proposed strategy
can help improve posture and reduce contact stress primarily
concerningdistal upper extremities of the employee when performing the
job-specific
typing tasks at her VDT workstation.
a)En el Departamento de la Familia - Oficina Local de Aguada,los empleados
realizaban tareas de oficina (tecnicos, secretarias y otro personal de
oficina).
Los
siguientes riesgos ergonomicos fueron observados:
1.La altura de la estacion de trabajo de la computadora era 32 pulgadas.
De
acuerdo con el Estandar Internacional (ISO 9241, 1992), la altura maxima
recomendada de la estacion de trabajo  "Video Display Terminal (VDT)"
es 29 pulgadas.
2.La estacion de trabajo ("VDT") no estaba equipada con un sujetador de
documentos ("document (copy) holder") para mejorar la postura de
empleados asi como su comodidad y eficiencia de trabajo.
3.Un descanso de muneca para escribir, que pueda ayudar a reducir la
exposicion de las manos/munecas por estres de contacto, no estaba
disponible en la estacion de trabajo ("VDT").
Riesgo: empleados expuestos a factores de riesgo ergonomicos tales como
posturas del cuerpo sostenidas y/o  extremas, frecuentemente adoptadas y
mantenidas durante largos periodos de tiempo y movimientos de cuerpo
repetitivos. Exposicion acumulativa de estos factores de riesgo y
particularmente
su combinacion, causa o contribuye a aumentar el riesgo de desordenes
musculo
esqueletales.
Entre otros metodos, algunos metodos factibles y aceptables para corregir
estos
riesgos son los siguientes:
1.Considerar explorar oportunidades para ajustar la altura de la estacion
de
trabajo ("VDT") de acuerdo a parametros recomendados por  estandares
relevantes de ergonomia. La altura maxima de la estacion de trabajo no
debe exceder 29 pulgadas (ISO 9241, 1992).  La estrategia propuesta
ayuda a mejorar la postura general del empleado cuando realiza las tareas
"VDT" especificas de su puesto y otras actividades en la estacion de
trabajo.
2.Considerar proveer un sujetador de documentos (document (copy) /
holder) que pueda controlar las posturas extremas frecuentemente
experimentadas por el empleado en su estacion de trabajo ("VDT"),
incluyendo el movimiento repetitivo de doblar y/o torcer el cuello/cabeza
cuando se realizan tareas tales como manejo manual de documentos, asi
como uso simultaneo de la computadora (entrada u obtencion de datos).
3.Considerar proveer un descanso de muneca para la tarea de escribir con
teclado.  La estrategia propuesta puede ayudar a mejorar postura y reducir
estres por contacto concerniente a extremidades superiores distales
delempleado, cuando realiza tareas de escribir con teclado en su estacion
de
trabajo ("VDT")."

Hazard: injuries and illnesses related to domestic violence in the
workplace.
Method to abate the hazard: develop a written protocol to handle domestic
violence in the workplace and provide training to all the employees.

Empleo,
Ley No. 217 de 2006.
Riesgo: lesiones y enfermedades relacionadas con la violencia domestica en
el
lugar de trabajo.
Metodo para corregir este riesgo: desarrollar un protocolo escrito para
manejar
situaciones de violencia domestica en el lugar de trabajo y proveer
adiestramiento
