Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that employees
were exposed to crushing injuries in the event of a hydraulic or
mechanical failure while using
automotive lifts in the workplace.
a)Service Area:Employees were exposed to potential hazards such as, but
not limited to
crushing injuries while working near and while operating Rotary  #4 & 5
automotive lifts
while servicing automobiles. The employer did not institute a period
inspection procedure
to ensure the safe operation of the lifts, as determined on August 14,
2009.
ABATEMENT NOTE:AMONG OTHER MEANS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE
ABATEMENT METHOD TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS TO ESTABLISH A
PERIODIC PROCEDURE IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE RECOMMENDATIONS OF
THE LIFT MANUFACTURER IN ORDER TO ENSURE RELIABILITY AND ALLOW
THE CONTINUED SAFE OPERATION OF THE LIFT, AS SPECIFIED BY SECTION
5.1 OF THE AMERICAN NATIONAL STANDARD (ANSI) AND AUTOMOTIVE
INSTITUTE (ALI), ANSI/ALIOM:2008, "SAFETY REQUIREMENTS FOR OPERATION,
INSPECTION AND MAINTENANCE".
