Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being struck sharp pieces of PVC piping, which was used to transport compressed air. On or about 08/12/09 at Augusta, GA: Employees were exposed to struck by hazards, while performing paint and body work. The employer used PVC piping to transport compressed air from the compressor throughout the shop. "Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to:" Only use material with shatter resistance properties (Reference Plastic Pipe Institute) and follow manufacturer recommendation on application of PVC piping. In accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19(c), abatement certification is required for this violation (using the CERTIFICATION OF CORRECTIVE ACTION WORKSHEET).
