employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized
hazards that were
causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in
that employees were
exposed to falling load hazards:
Cooking Room area and Maintenance Shop - Employees were exposed to hazards
of being struck
by an overloaded hoist.  Frequent inspections have not been performed on
the 5-Ton Demag,
and 2-Ton Budgit overhead hoists.
AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE METHOD TO
CORRECT THIS HAZARD WOULD BE: to conduct frequent inspections as required
by ANSI
B30.16-1973, Overhead Hoists, to determine as to whether they constitute a
safety hazard:  a)
All controls and operating mechanisms for improper operations; b) All
safety devices for
malfunctions; c) Deterioration or leakage in air systems; d) Hooks for
deformations, chemical
damage, or cracks; e) Load-carrying ropes or chains for wear, twist,
distortion.
29 CFR 1903.19(c)(1) requires certification that the abatement of the
above violation is
completed.
