Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to install and require the use of an operator restraint system in accordance with the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) B56.1-2005, Standard for Powered Industrial Trucks.

Labor and Employment Article, Section 5-104(a): The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees: (a)Date of Violation:10/01/09 Location:Forklift Chargin Area and Chemical Room Condition:Emergency eye wash, where employees had potential exposure to sulfuric acid from adding water to forklift truck batteries and to corrosive chemicals such as CleanEdge 6496, was inoperable. (b)Date of Violation:10/07/09 Location:Quality Control Laboratory Condition:Employees used a corrosive chromic and sulfuric acid solution to clean glassware in an area where they would have to exit the room and travel more that 10 seconds to access an emergency eye wash. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to complye with the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Z358.1, "Emergency Eye Wash and Shower Equipment."
