Labor and Employment Article, Section 5-104(a): The employer did not
furnish employment and a place of
employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or
likely to cause death or serious
physical harm to employees:
(a)Date of Violation:04/12/10
Condition:An employee, unloading granite slabs, weighing 800-1000 pounds
each, was not
protected from being struck by the granite slabs.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to
correct this hazard is to:
1) Secure the granite slabs to the "A" frame with an adjustable positive
locking device that is of sufficient
strength to prevent the granite slabs from falling; and
2) Ensure the bed of the truck is level during the unloading process, so
that the "A" frame is at a safe angle,
to prevent the granite slabs from shifting or falling.
Abatement documentation (photographs, receipts, copies of programs,
training certification, etc.)
is required for this item.
