Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that employees
were exposed to a fall hazard:
a) Truss Yard - An employee was lifted on a platform by a rough terrain
forklift.  The
platform was not securely attached to the forklift, thus exposing the
employee to a fall
hazard as discovered on or about June 17, 2010.
ABATEMENT NOTE:
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to
correct this hazard is
to:
a) Develop specific procedures for lifting personnel with a rough terrain
forklift that comply with
the requirements listed in ANSI B56.6.
b) Ensure that the platform is secured to the forklift prior to lifting
personnel.
c) Train forklift operators in the specific requirements to be followed
when lifting personnel with
a rough terrain forklift.
