Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing, or likely to cause, death or serious physical harm to
employees in that employees
were exposed to struck-by hazards.
At this location, employees ride in the cargo area of armored trucks when
delivering coins and currency to financial institutions and businesses.
Bags and
boxes of coins and currency weighing approximately 35 lbs each are not
secured
to a permanent structure to prevent weight shifting in the event of abrupt
vehicle
movement.
An acceptable means of abatement would be to develop and implement safe
practices and methods to secure bags/boxes of coins, currency and
valuables, such
as, but not limited to, a repository container with a hinged lockable door
anchored to the armored vehicle floor or permanent structure for placement
of
coins, currency and valuables when in transit.s
