Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that employees
were exposed to motor-vehicle struck by hazards:
(a) Location - Route 93 North, Medford, MA:
On or about 8/29/11, the employer failed to ensure the use of traffic
control signs or
barricades when workers were conducting highway maintenance.
Among other methods, a feasible means to abate this hazard is to place
signs and
barricades as required by the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices
(MUTCD)
2009 Edition, in order to protect workers performing all mobile and
short-duration work.
