Duties of employers.
Every employer shall furnish employment and a place of employment which
are free from
recognized hazards that are causing or are likely to cause death or
serious physical harm to his
or her employees.
At the OnRamp Transportation Service parts room, the employer did not
furnish a place
of employment free of recognized hazards when employees were exposed to 32
storage
racks that were not anchored down, labeled for weight, and three that were
damaged.
This exposed employees to injuries up to and including death if the
damaged racks were
to completely collapse or if product fell from the shelves.
1. In the parts section of the business, none of the steel storage racks
had plaques
explaining weight limits. Reference ANSI MH16.1 Paragraph 1.4.2
2. In the parts section of the business, thirty two (32) steel storage
racks
were not
anchored down to prevent movement. Reference ANSI MH16.1 Paragraph
1.4.7
3. In the parts section of the business, three (3) steel storage racks had
damaged
legs that were buckling. Reference ANSI MH16.1 Paragraph 1.4.9

ONE FEASIBLE MEANS OF ABATEMENT WOULD BE TO FOLLOW ANSI MH16.1
PARAGRAPH 1.4.2 (PLAQUES FOR LOAD CAPACITY), 1.4.7 (ANCHORING DOWN
RACKS), AND 1.4.9 (REPAIR OR REPLACE DAMAGED PARTS).
