Duties of employers.
Every employer shall furnish employment and a place of employment which
are free from
recognized hazards that are causing or are likely to cause death or
serious physical harm to his
or her employees.
At the construction project on Green Valley Parkway, two (2) employees
were observed
using a Genie scissor lift model #GS1930, serial #10091403 improperly and
not in
accordance with the owner's manual. The scissor lift was extended to
twelve (12) feet,
one (1) inch. This exposed the employee to fall hazards.
1. Employee #1 was observed climbing on the guardrails to get in and out
of an
extended scissor lift to access the roof above.
2. Employees #1 and #2 were observed working on the platform of a scissor
lift
while having the platform entry chain disconnected.
Reference owner manual for guardrail usage. See attached documentation on
1B.
TWO FEASIBLE MEANS OF ABATEMENT WOULD BE TO RE-TRAIN EMPLOYEES
IN THE PROPER USE OF A SCISSOR LIFT AND ALSO BY USING THE SCISSOR
LIFT IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE OWNER'S MANUAL PROVIDED BY THE
MANUFACTURER.
